By default, WordPress does not have an excerpt field for pages. Most of the time, this is ok. But if you are showing pages on your home page or in a sidebar and you want to include an excerpt, then you will need that feature.
For example, at The Inspired Caregiver, Jeannie wanted an excerpt of her bio in the sidebar with a link to the About Page. Here is what that looks like.
The good news, it’s super easy! I will cover how to do the Keep reading here link in a separate post.
How to add excerpts to pages
Surf to Dashboard / Plugins / Add New
Search for ‘Page Excerpt’ By Jeremy Massel.
Install and activate the plugin.
Edit any page or create a new one. If you scroll down, you will find the excerpt field just like you would in a post.
If you don’t see the excerpt field in your page, then check your Screen Options and be sure that Excerpts has a check next to it.
And that’s it!
